HOLI!!!

Let’s have a short break from the 10 rules of the slow traveller.

Just a reminder: it’s Holi time in India!!!! It’s probably the most colorful holiday in the world…

Holi, also known as India’s Festival of Colors, begins on the Phalgun Purnima, or the night of the first full moon in late February or early March. For those of you who haven’t looked up at the night sky recently, that means it’s this weekend.

Believed to have originated as long ago as 300BC, the legend-soaked event celebrates the arrival of spring and the promise of fertile fields. It also scares away laziness and sickness in the lives of Hindus. As part of the celebrations, Hindus enjoy bonfires (to kill bacterias in the body), throw brightly-colored powders in the air (to invoke the richness and bounty of spring), and drink and eat bhang (um…just for fun). In other words, it’s sort of like Mardi Gras for Hindus.

GO SLOW – The 10 rules of the slow traveller; RULE #1

This is the World I’ve seen. The map has been generated on a interesting website and it shows all the countries where I’ve set my foot on. At least once.

Wow, I used to think I travelled a lot but….gee…there’s still a HUGE room for improvement. I hope I’ll be on the road soon…

For the time being, let’s resume our chats on the beuty of travelling itself. Lately I ran into an intriguing article issued on occasion of the National Day of Slowness! it celebrates the “slow traveller” giving advices and hint on how to own your own time when onthe road, etc.

So, here I start with the first rule:

1) Seek the beauty close to your home, avoiding the “non-places” and the obvious ones. (Look for hideways where you can breath the sense of time, smell life and enjoy its seasons cicle).

Now, only this first rule would be enough to encompass the philosofy of life and travel together withour any further discussion. Difficult to disagree. But you never know…

Remember, when replying….be slow!

All of this, yes.

We’ll take you around with us.

Welcome,
